Metro 2 account status code 96: repossession
The lender took back the collateral, usually a vehicle, after you fell behind. After it sells the vehicle, a deficiency balance may still be owed, and the account can keep reporting that balance until it's paid, settled, charged off or sold. Once the balance is paid, the status should move to 63.
How it shows on your report
"Repossession" or "Repossessed," often with RP in the grid.
How it affects your score
A serious negative, and it stays for the full reporting period even if you later pay the deficiency.
What to check
Check that the auction proceeds were credited and the deficiency matches the notice you got after the sale. If the debt was sold to a collector, the lender's balance should drop to $0. If the repossession was later redeemed, the status shouldn't still say repossessed with the full balance.
